Limited edition of one thousand and fifty copies of which this is number one hundred and fifty-four. A collection of the Pythian victory odes by Pindar, an Ancient Greek lyric poet from Thebes. Of the canonical nine lyric poets of ancient Greece, his work is the best preserved. The Pythian Games was one of the four Panhellenic Games of Ancient Greece, held in Delphi every four years in honour of Apollo. Translated by Henry Theodore Wade-Gery, an English classical scholar, historian and epigrapher, and Sir Cecil Maurice Bowra, an English classical scholar, literary critic and academic, known for his wit.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor wear to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Age toning to the endpapers.
