The first edition, first impression.

In the unclipped dust wrapper designed by Sir William Orpen, depicting the titular character Mr Blettsworthy as he watches the group of cannibals from the story.

This popular allegorical satire was written shortly following the death of the author's wife. The tale presents a "Gentleman of Culture and Refinement" being stranded on the remote Rampole Island, where the only other inhabitants are a group of cannibals.

Written by prolific English author, H. G. Wells, known for his wide variety of works, from satire, to science-fiction and politics.
