What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Limited Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

A beautifully illustrated,  Limited Edition English translation of this mid seventeenth century novel by L'Abbe Prevost. The first edition thus, being the first of this translation, and the first with these illustrations.

The limitation leaf, which should identify this as one of 500 copies and be signed by Austen, has been removed.

Illustrated with twelve charming colour plates from John Austen, who was particularly recognised for the Art Deco influences present in his work.

Collated, complete.

A wonderful edition of the controversial tale of Chevalier des Grieux, and his lover, Manon Lescaut, a work initially banned in France upon publication.

Condition

In the publisher's original quarter vellum binding, with cloth covered boards. Minor bump to back strip head, otherwise externally fine. Internally, firmly bound, but with limitation leaf removed. Pages bright, but with spotting and instances of foxing throughout.
