What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding, Limited Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

Bound in quarter vellum with decorative paper-covered boards.

A scarce privately printed copy, being one of only ten copies made by hand for Jeremy Gaige by Crosby Gaige and designer Frederic Warde, dated October 9th, 1928.

No copies held institutionally.

The colophon charmingly records the young Jeremy’s first-birthday measurements: “On this day he weighed twenty-four and one-half pounds, stood thirty-three inches in his stockings, had a hat-band of eighteen and one-half inches and a chest-measure of twenty inches, namely his first birthday.”

The volume features Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem “My Bed is a Boat.”

Loosely inserted are pages titled Jeremy Gaige 1927 October Ninth 1929, containing the poem “A Secret” by C. G. [Crosby Gaige], one of twenty-five copies printed for Master Jeremy’s guests at Watch Hill Press in 1929.

Crosby Gaige (1882–1949) was an American theatrical producer, publisher, and gourmet. His Watch Hill Press operated from his farm in Peekskill, New York, producing finely made private editions for friends and associates. Jeremy Gaige (1927–2011) later became a respected journalist and chess historian.
