A short play, written in the author's later life and set in Whitehall in 1599. The play contains "some snatches of Elizabethan idiom" featuring Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth, and Richard Burbage as characters. Written by George Augustus Moore, an Irish novelist, short-story writer, poet, art critic, memoirist and dramatist. As a naturalistic writer, he was amongst the first English-language authors to absorb the lessons of the French realists, and was particularly influenced by the works of Emile Zola.
