The fourth impression of this illustrated edition of Samuel Pepys' diaries, featuring the works of E. H. Shepard, an English artist best known for his contributions to Winnie-the-Pooh and The Wind in the Willows. 

Bound in full decorative calf. 

Pepys served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament, but is most famous for these diary entries, of which he wrote over the course of a decade.

The diaries provide a combination of personal revelation and eyewitness accounts of important events, such as the Great Plague of London, the Second Dutch War, and the Great Fire of London.

With an illustrated title page, vignette, and fifty-nine illustrative plates. Collated, complete.

Condition

Bound in full decorative calf. Externally, smart, with rubbing to the extremities and minor loss to the spine head. Small crack to the head of the front joint. Internally, firmly bound. With a contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper, otherwise bright and clean.
