1927 Die Bibel; Oder die Ganze Heilige Schrift, 1. Band
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Colour Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Publishers' Original Binding
A lavishly-illustrated copy of this Lutherian Bible. Illustrated throughout with many coloured illustrations in the text and an illuminated title page. Luther's translation of the Bible into the vernacular (instead of Latin) made it more accessible, which had a tremendous impact on the church and on German culture. It fostered the development of a standard version of the German language, added several principles to the art of translation, and influenced the writing of an English translation, the Tyndale Bible. His hymns influenced the development of singing in churches. Volume I (complete in itself, with no further volumes recorded).
Condition
In a blindstamped calf binding. Externally, rubbed, with some wear to the extremities and some marks. Joints are cracked and tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, and generally clean, with just some foxing to the first and last few pages, as usual.
