The work provides an in depth history of British decorative plasterwork in architecture. The author starts with the practice under Henry VIII, and looks up until the reign of George III. This work features prominent examples of decorative plasterwork in Great Britain such as Craigievar Castle, Muchalls Castle, Haddon Hall, Chastleton House, Knole House, and Speke Hall.
With an introduction by Arthur T. Bolton, the curator of Sir John Sloane's museum.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Slight fading to extremities and spine. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. One or two slight handling marks to boards. One or two scratches and marks to rear board. The odd slight handling mark to endpapers. Slight cockling to gutter of front endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Hinges slightly strained in places, but holding. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd handling mark, heavier to endpapers.
