Written by 'Tacticus', this work explores the strategy and tactics used in the Waterloo Campaign, presenting a case study for classic military principles: concentration, maneuver, logistics, timing. Including a diary of events, an appreciation of the situation from the view of the Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Forces, dated 13th June 1815, and a chapter on the suggested orders for the chief of the French army staff on the 16th and 18th June 1815.

With three folding maps to the rear of the work, including one of Ligny and Quatre Bras, June 16th, and two of Waterloo, 11am June 18th and 8pm June 18th. Publisher's advertisements to final leaf. Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth-covered paper wraps. Externally, generally smart. Bumping and rubbing to extremities, resulting in slight loss of cloth at head and tail of spine. Wraps are lightly soiled with the odd handling mark. Slight cockling to boards and spine. Paper from removed library annotation to front wrap, with faint pencil inscription. Spine faded. Original price on front wrap obscured by ink mark. One small spot of damp staining to front wrap. Library stamps from the Officers Reference Library, Abassia, to front free endpaper, half title, and copyright page. One or two spots of damp staining to endpapers, alongside the odd spot and handling mark. Front hinge strained. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean if a little age toned with one or two handling marks and spots. Cup ring damp staining to page 51. Library tattle tape to page 21.
