'Essays of Elia' is a series of essays by Charles Lamb, which were first published in 'The London Magazine'. The subjects the essays are on vary greatly, but the conversational tone Lamb writes in charmed many readers.
Both volumes are illustrated with a frontispiece, and in-text illustrations, by Charles E. Brock.
Charles Lamb was a popular antiquarian and essayist, known for his work 'Tales from Shakespeare', which he co-authored with his sister, and for these essays.

In a full calf binding, bound by Riviere, in a custom marbled paper covered slipcase. Externally, smart. A few light marks to the boards and spines. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Slipcase is smart, a little rubbed, in a very good condition.
