First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

The first edition of this work. This work is often considered to be Captain James' finest work. In the work the author gives a full account of the role of the Royal Navy in the American War of Independence, describing the events from 1762 to 1777. With fifteen plates of maps, and twenty-eight plates of sketches of naval battles. Written by William James. James was a naval commander and author, who served in the Royal Naval through both World Wars.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Very minor marking to the boards. Front hinge is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd patch of scattered spots. The odd pencil annotation to the margins. Marks to the gutter of pages 292 to 293.
