The second edition of this uncommon work, which was first published in 1916.

Volume I of this work, which signifies that this is in the English language. It was simultaneously published in Chinese, termed volume II.

Illustrated with twenty-one plates. Collated, complete.

An impressive cookbook with 1,000 recipes "adapted to the limitations of the local market, efforts having been made to exclude every recipe the ingredients of which can not be readily procured in China".

With chapters devoted to jellies, ice cream, cocktails, soups, macaroni and steak.

With advertisements to the front and rear of the work.

With the bookplate of Martin and Pamela Finch to the front free endpaper. They were antiquarian booksellers with an interest in antiquarian gastronomy.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Back strip age toned, with small areas of light fading to fore edge of boards. Two minor worm holes towards head of front joint. Front hinge strained, reinforced with tape, and with a touch of worming to front pastedown. Bookplate to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Stamp to title page tail.
