This is a charming collection of two works by H. V. Morton, centering London, consisting of:

The Heart of London, H. V. Morton’s debut book. This is the fourth edition, and the first edition with 24 scissor-cut illustrations by Viennese artist Lisl Hummel. Collated, complete. The book assembles 49 essays and sketches about London people, places, and daily life, drawn from a series of around 75 articles Morton originally wrote for the Daily Express in early 1925. 

In The London Year: A Book of Many Moods, Morton takes his readers through a year in London. This volume is a first edition. A charming narrative detailing the typical year in the largest city in and capital of the United Kingdom, with chapters focusing on each month. The dust wrapper for this copy is exceptionally scarce. Decorated in text and with full page plates by A. E. Horne.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally, very smart. slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Previous owner's contemporary inscription to front free endpapers of both copies. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Dust wrappers, generally smart. slightly soiled. The odd chip and closed tear to extremities with slight loss at heads and tails of spines. Tape repairs to inner extremities. The odd crease to wraps of "Heart of London". Slight age toning. The odd spot and minor handling mark. Slight damp staining to perimeters of "London Year". Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots to fore edge.
