Two charming volumes of A. A. Milne's songs put to music by H. Fraser Simson. The songs in these two volumes were originally published in 'When We Were Very Young' and 'Now We Are Six'.
Both volumes are beautifully illustrated in-text throughout by Ernest Shepard, including with depictions of Winnie the Pooh and his friends.
'Teddy Bear and Other Songs From "When We Were Very Young"', published in 1926. Including 'Puppy and I', 'Daffodowndilly', 'Rice Pudding', 'Teddy Bear', and more. The poem 'Teddy Bear' is the first appearance of Winnie the Pooh, though he is known named as Pooh in the poem. The poem was originally published in 'Punch' in 1924.
'Songs From "Now We Are Six"', published in 1927. Including 'Down By The Pond', 'Sneezles', 'The Emperor's Rhyme', 'Wind on the Hill', and more.
Bookplate of Olive Plumpton to the recto of the front endpapers.
Condition
In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. A couple of light marks to the boards. Small amount of wear to the spine of 'Teddy Bear'. Bookplate to the recto of the front endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
