The first Foulsham abridged edition. The novel was first published by Rider and Son in 1911, to very bad reviews. This 1925 edition is a highly abridged and rewritten version, shortened by 100 pages, and with 28 chapters rather than the original 40.
'The Lair of the White Worm' is a horror novel based on the legend of the Lambton Worm. It's is sometimes considered to be one of the worst books ever written, and was published to highly negative reviews.
With an advertisement leaf to the rear.
The novel was loosely adapted into a film in 1988 by Ken Russell.
H. P. Lovecraft stated that Stoker 'utterly ruins a magnificent idea by a development almost infantile'.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with fading to spine. Boards bright. Spotting to fore edge of text block. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting and instances of foxing to first few leaves, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright.
