E.F. Norton offers an account of the 1924 British Mount Everest expedition, which he led.
The book is particularly significant for its coverage of the disappearance of George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, who vanished near the summit on the 8th June 1924. Their fate remained a mystery until Mallory’s body was discovered in 1999.
Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, large folding map and thirty-two further plates, seven of which are in colour.

With a former owner's inscription to the front free endpaper.
Regarded as a cornerstone of Everest literature, Norton provides an impressive record of early high-altitude mountaineering.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with light rubbing to front board perimeters. Hinges significantly strained and very tenderly held. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with only the odd spot.
