What Our Customers Say...

Description

Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Signed

The first edition.

Signed by the author in pencil to the recto of the front endpaper, "Julian Huxley, from, Robert Graves".

A fascinating association copy. Julian Huxley was an evolutionary biologist, internationalist, and eugenicist, who was a leading figure in mid-twentieth century modern synthesis. He was a founding member of the World Wildlife Fund, and was the elder brother of Aldous Huxley, and the grandson of Thomas Henry Huxley, who was friends with and a supporter of Charles Darwin. He published many works on science, and also was well known for his presentations on radio and television.

The occasional pencil note to the margins, presumably by Huxley.

'Poetic Unreason and Other Studies' is a collection of fourteen essays, in which Graves explores poetic psychology.

Including 'What is Bad Poetry', 'A Theory of Consciousness', 'Jekyll and Hyde', 'Defence of Poetic Analysis', 'Secondary Elaboration', 'The Illogical Element in Poetry', 'Classical and Romantic', 'Problems for Classification', 'Naturally', 'The Tempest: An Analysis', 'Control By Spirits', 'Poetic Genius', 'Succession', and 'Sensory Vehicles of Poetic Thought'.
