An uncommon first and limited subscription edition - this being one of only 300 copies.

A rich, and frequently illustrated, exploration of the history and social geography of Palestine, signed by the author to the half title.

Features a colour frontispiece, and illustrated title page, 4 maps, including a folding map in excellent condition, 5 coloured plates and 12 plates of sketches. 

The line sketch of Jericho has been misbound between pp.162-163 instead of pp.166-167; photographic plate "war" is misbound between pp.64-65 instead of pp.66-67; as is the plate presently bound between pp.72-73 instead of facing p.70, and the plate facing p.168, which ought to be opposite p.161.

40 photographic plates are also scattered throughout this work. The title is seemingly missing one photographic plate, but it could be misbound elsewhere, as there is no evidence of removal.
