Limited Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
German. Limited to two hundred and fifty copies, of which this is number eighty. A ode to the country of Germany first published in the early nineteenth century. This work, along with another ode 'Death for the Fatherland', had a disastrous impact in later years being one of Holderlin's most frequently quoted poems during the Nazi era. Written by Johann Christian Friedrich Holderlin, a German poet and philosopher, described as "the most German of Germans" and a key figure of German Romanticism.
Condition
In the original paper wraps. Externally, sound with light wear to the extremities and sunning to the wrap edges. A closed tear to the spine with light chipping to the extremities. A 3" closed tear to the front panel. Hinges tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with minor age toning to the extremities.
