What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding
The first separate edition of this play, the 'Provincetown-Greenwhich Plays' edition.
O'Neill's play was inspired by the myth of Phaedra, Hippolytus, and Theseus, and presents an attempt to adapt the elements and themes of Greek tragedy to a rural New England setting.
With the inscription of Fr. Pool Bevan to the front free endpaper. Frank Poole Bevan was an American costume and set designer renowned for his contributions to theatre design and education. He joined the Yale School of Drama as a faculty member in the 1930s, where he served as a professor of theatrical design until his retirement in 1971.
Working in the theatrical scene of New York in the same time period, it is possible that Bevan and O'Neill new one another.
