Description

Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

Three volumes. With a frontispiece to each volume. From the "Teaching of English" series, a collection of educational books published by Thomas Nelson and Sons Ltd. between 1925 and 1968. The series, also sometimes referred to as "Nelson's English Series," focused on various aspects of English language and literature, aiming to be a "home library for appreciative readers". These volumes are written by John Buchan, a Scottish novelist, historian, British Army officer, and Unionist politician who served as Governor General of Canada. This set contains: The Path of the King, 1925. Presented as a loosely-coupled series of short stories, this novel offers a sweeping tapestry of historical episodes, from the Vikings through centuries of Norman, French, Flemish, English, Scottish and American scenes. Prester John, 1948. An adventure novel following the story of the young Scotsman David Crawfurd and his adventures in South Africa, where a native uprising under the charismatic black minister John Laputa is tied to the medieval legend of Prester John. Salute to Adventurers, 1949. A historical adventure novel, set among the newly-settled Virginia plantations of the late seventeenth century. Including a number of historical characters and events, like the wild and radical preaching of John Gibb, founder of the Sweet Singers sect.
