Three volumes of a four volume set. Volumes I, II, and III only. New edition. Volumes one and two were published in 1925, while volume three was published in 1926. With the vanishingly scarce original unclipped dust wrappers. Each volume is illustrated with a colour frontispiece and forty-eight colour plates. Collated complete. A detailed and comprehensive ornithological study of British birds, showing them in their natural surroundings, with commentary on typical habits and habitats as well as plumage and song. Written and illustrated by Archibald Thorburn, a Scottish artist who specialised in wildlife, painting mostly in watercolour.
Condition
In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor bumping to the extremities and light fading to the spine. Original unclipped dust wrappers are sound with light wear and the odd small closed tear to the panel edges. Light chipping resulting in minor loss to the head of the spines. Sunning to the spines with the odd small mark to the panels. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with minor age toning to the endpapers.
