First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, one folding map, and thirty-nine plates. Collated complete. George Binney's account of his pioneering expeditions to the Arctic using seaplanes, detailing his leading of the 1923 Merton College Arctic Expedition, and the 1924 Oxford University Arctic Expedition. The expedition was the first to traverse Nordaustlandet or North East Land, the second-largest island in the Svalbard archipelago, using the Avro 504O seaplane ("The Avro Arctic"). Written by Sir Frederick George Binney, a noted Arctic explorer. With a preface from William Johnson Sollas, a British geologist and anthropologist.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges with a small split to the front joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Minor spotting and light age toning to the first and last few pages.
