This volume is a domestic cookery book offering a curated collection of traditional English recipes designed for “various occasions”. Recipes include: Bortsch - Russian Soup, Potage a la Milanaise, Souffle de Sole, Creme de Volaille, Ballontines de Pigeon, Mousse de Jambon en Gelee, Sheep's Head Pie, Treacle Spongue, Brown Bread Pudding, and Pouding Maltese, among many others. 

Mary, Countess of Lovelace (1864-1941), born Mary Caroline Stuart-Wortley, was a prominent figure in social reform and rural education, and the daughter-in-law of Ada Lovelace, the famed mathematician.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Very slight rubbing to boards. Previous bookseller's discreet sticker to front paste down. Previous owner's small inscription to front free endpaper. very slight offsetting to endpapers. Dust wrapper, smart. Unclipped. Age toned with slight soiling, the odd spot, and the odd handling mark. Rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in slight loss to extremities. The odd closed tear to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot.
