    First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

    Three first editions by John Masefield: Sard Harker, 1924; The Bird of Dawning, 1933; and Victorious Troy, 1935. 

    Sard Harker is an adventure novel, one of the three set in the fictional nation of Santa Barbara in South America, along with ODTAA and The Taking of the Gry. Set in 1897, it follows the story of Sard Harker, mate on a merchant vessel named the 'Pathfinder.' A lonely man, he struggles with the solitary life and the antagonistic forces of nature. 

    The Bird of Dawning and Victorious Troy are stories from the sea. In The Bird of Dawning Masefield relates the adventures of the crew of a China Clipper, forced to abandon ship and take to the boats. Victorious Troy is based on a real incident of a ship going through a massive storm in the South Pacific. 

    Each volume is in its unclipped dust wrapper, uncommon to find in each volume.

    Condition

    In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally smart with some shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The dust wrapper is sound, with some shelf wear and chipping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. with a minor loss to the head of the spine of 'Sard Harker' and 'Victorious Troy.' Each dust wrapper was tape repaired internally to the wraps. With some minor spotting internally to the wraps and some minor soiling to the externals. Unclipped. Internally, firmly bound. With some minor spotting to the fore edge, affecting only the endpapers and the odd first and last few leaves, otherwise the pages are generally bright and clean.
