In publisher's original red cloth binding. 

Sir Richard Francis Burton was a British explorer, army officer, writer and scholar. He was famed for his travels and explorations in Asia, Africa and South America, as well as his extensive knowledge of languages and cultures, speaking up to 29 different languages.

He was the first to discover Lake Tanganyika and to penetrate hitherto-forbidden Muslim cities. 

With an introduction and occasional notes by N.M. Penzer, British independent scholar who specialized in Oriental studies. 

Condition

In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Very slight rubbing to spine. Previous owner's book plate to front paste down. Previous owner's stamps and ink inscription to front free end paper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Library stamp to half title page.
