    First edition. Illustrated with a tipped in colour frontispiece and nineteen colour tipped in plates. Collated complete. An absorbing autobiographical work, comprising accounts from August Ludolf Friedrich Schaumann, who vividly describes his Peninsula adventures serving as war commissary in the King's German Legion, boarding one of the English ships in 1808. With reference to the camps and quarters, the march to Spain, troubles in Astorga, positioning the army, various attacks, and much more. Translated and edited by Anthony Mario Ludovici, a British philosopher, sociologist, social critic and polyglot.

    Condition

    In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
