Between 1906 and 1918, Stefansson went on three long expeditions to the Alaskan and Canadian Arctic. This account of his travels and observations details the rigors of existence in the Arctic. For supplies he relied heavily on local resources, and found he must adopt the Eskimo way of living, thus successfully demonstrating his theory that the trials of Arctic life are much reduced by the use of such techniques. Written by Vilhjalmur Stefansson, an Arctic explorer and ethnologist, noted for the term the "Blonde Eskimo" despite his preference for “Copper Inuit”. With forewords by Henry Fairfield Osborn, an American paleontologist, geologist and eugenics advocate, and Reginald Walter Brock, a Canadian geologist, academic, and civil servant.
