In the publisher's original green cloth binding. This is a substantial biographical compendium containing notices of 500 notable men and women born, residing, working, or dying in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire who made significant contributions to the region. Entries are arranged alphabetically, and cover clergy, industrialists, civic leaders, artists, scientists, medical figures, and even Robin Hood as a legendary county figure. This copy comes with a separate supplement from 1925, containing notes on an additional 28 further names and errata. Robert Mellors (1835–c.1930) was a local historian, vice-president of the Thoroton Society, alderman on the Nottinghamshire County Council, and author of In and About Nottinghamshire (1908).

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine and perimeters of boards. One or two minor handling marks to boards and spine. Slight offsetting to endpapers with one or two spots. Bookplate from "William Henry Mason" to front paste down. Supplement has slight rust staining from staples. Tape reinforcements to hinges to rear endpapers, where supplement was affixed with staples. Pages firmly bound. Pages bright and clean if slightly age toned with one or two spots, heavier to fore edge.
