    First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

    The first American editions. First published in the UK by Chapman and Hall. 

    A two volume set, featuring the years 1924 and 1926. 

    Illustrated with fourteen monochrome plates to '1924', and eighteen to '1926'. 

    This set features two collections of stories from a variety of talented authors. The  '1926' collection is notable for its inclusion of Evelyn Waugh's first ever commercial publication, 'The Balance', a short story written in a experimental modernist style, with this being the first American edition of the story, first published the previous year in the UK edition.

    Condition

    In the publisher's original quarter cloth. Externally very smart with slight marks to the boards, and minimal wear to the extremities, with slight fading to the spine to '1924'. Bookplate of 'Mary W. Johnson' to the front pastedown to '1926' and a small library location label to '1924'. Internally firmly bound with generally bright pages with occasional spotting.
