Edith Œnone Somerville (1858-1949) and Violet Martin (1862-1915), who wrote together under the name Somerville & Ross, were Irish cousins and literary collaborators best known for The Irish R.M. series.

In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing and bumping to extremities and boards, with slight loss to paper boards partially obscuring "Martin Ross". Rubbing to and creasing to spine label. Spine creased down the center. Slight discolouration to paper boards. Spot of damp staining to rear paper board. Library bookplate to rear paste down, with slight offsetting and the odd handling mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, if a little age toned with the odd spot and handling mark.
