A very scarce copy of this work, printed for private circulation. 

Illustrated with numerous plates from photographs, paintings, and prints, with 11 colour plates, including a frontispiece. This copy features 16 maps and plans, many of which are fold-outs. Collated, complete. 

A comprehensive history chronicling the long and distinguished service of one of the British Army’s most storied cavalry units. The volume traces the origins of the 5th (Royal Irish) Dragoons from their formation in 1689, through their disbandment at the close of the eighteenth century, and reconstitution as the 5th Royal Irish Lancers in 1858, concluding with their disbandment following Irish independence in 1921.

Condition

Rebound in green cloth, with portions of the original binding laid down on the spine and front board. Externally, very smart. Very slight rubbing to extremities. The odd minor handling mark to boards, more so to rear board. Rubbing apparent to portions of the original binding. Slight creasing and offsetting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd handling mark and typical age toning to perimeters. Slight cockling to pages. Slight loss and damage to upper corners of last few leaves not affecting the text, with one repaired. Closed tear to final map at joint.
