First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and thirteen plates. Collated complete. An interesting and insightful work on the deer and deer forests in Scotland. Deer forests are sporting estates kept solely for the purpose of deer stalking, common in the Highlands of Scotland. This study contains chapters on the history of the forests, lists of forests with descriptive notes, days in the forests, the deer, poaching, and superstitions, with a detailed index. Written by Alexander Inkson McConnochie, a Scottish chartered accountant and naturalist best known for his work "Ben Muich Dhui and His Neighbours: A Guide to the Cairngorm Mountains".

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the cloth. A small damp stain to the lower corner of the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting to the first and last few pages. Light age toning to the endpapers.
