The first edition of the second volume of A.D.L. Cary and Stouppe McCance's history of the Royal Welch Fusiliers (1816-1914), published for the Royal United Service Institution at Whitehall in 1923.
In the publisher's original decorative cloth, with a frontispiece of The Colours of the regiment. Also contains all six other colour illustrations by Gerald Hudson, and fifteen monochrome illustrations. An image of the captured Burmese Bell at Mandalay on p.74 is not present. Collated complete.
Cary and McCance have provided a detailed history which tracks the service of the prestigious Royal Welch Fusiliers. This particular volume covers their campaigns during the height of the British Empire up to World War I, including their struggles during the Crimean War and the Boer Wars.
Condition
In the publisher's original decorative cloth. Externally, smart. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Signs of shelf wear to the extremities. The rare mark, with slight fading to the joints. A marginal lift to cloth at rear joint. Offsetting to end papers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd mark and browning to leaf extremities. Slightly heavier browning near hinge to leaves pp.xvi-xvii.
