Illustrated with a frontispiece, fifteen plates and a folding map to the rear. 

An account of the author's explorations of the southwest corner of Gansu in 1915. 

This is Reginald Farrer's last book, originally published posthumously in 1921, the year after the traveller and plant collector died while on an expedition in upper Burma. 

Farrer would often travel to Asia in search of a variety of plants, many of which he brought back to England and planted near his home village of Clapham, North Yorkshire.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with slight rubbing and bumping to the extremities. A few small marks to the boards. Contemporary ink inscriptions to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the endpapers and occasional spots.
