Previously owned by Ambrose Heal, the renowned furniture designer and Chairman of the popular 'Heal's' furniture store. The work includes a letter to Heal in response to a letter he sent regarding the clocks of the renowned clockmaker, Thomas Tompion, several newspaper articles, and research compiled by Heal regarding the clocks of Thomas Tompion.
A historical and descriptive account of clocks and watches, including early time recorders, weight clocks, pocket watches, and the mechanisms of clocks and watches, with a list of twelve thousand makers. Written by F. J. Britten, a British horologist, considered one of the preeminent horologist of his time.

Condition
In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with very minimal rubbing to the extremities, and the odd slight mark, including light small scattered damp stains to the spine. Light offsetting to the endpapers, with rear hinge starting. Internally, binding slightly strained in places, otherwise firm, with bright pages, and the odd owner's inscription and tipped in newspaper clipping to the index to the rear.
