1922 Dorsetshire Folk-Lore
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding
The first edition of Dorsetshire Folk-lore, written by British antiquarian John Symonds Udal. Printed by Stephen Austin and Sons in 1922.
In the publisher's original grey cloth, with antique laid paper.
A labour of love, Symonds had spent years of in-depth research into the local folklore of Dorset, during which he was appointed as the attorney-general of Fiji. Symonds has collected folk stories, customs, superstitions and proverbs from the beautiful English county, often relaying details of specific places within Dorset too, such as a haunted cottage in Studland.
A foreword has been written by the late William Barnes, known as 'the Dorset Poet' for his use of local dialect in his popular poetry.
