This volume is a first edition.

This work is densely illustrated with photography by the author, with sixty three monochrome plates containing one hundred and fourteen photographs and two maps, one of which is folding. Collated, complete.

Seton Gordon (1886–1977) was a Scottish naturalist, folklorist and photographer. He mainly explored and captured the highlands of Scotland. He joined the 1921 summer expedition to Spitsbergen, contributing vivid imagery and observations of Arctic wildlife. The book offers a first-person perspective of Arctic life during the expedition.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. One or two slight handling marks to boards. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, particularly to head and tail of spine. Spine slightly faded. Previous bookseller's small label to front paste down. Slight offsetting to endpapers, with scattered spotting and offsetting to front free endpapers and half title. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean if slightly age toned with scattered spotting to fore edge, heavier to first and last few leaves.
