Two limited edition novels by Hugh Walpole, both published alongside the first trade editions.
Both volumes are signed by the author to the limitation pages.
Both volumes are in their original unclipped dust wrappers.
'The Cathedral', published in 1922, one of two hundred and fifty large paper copies. This novel follows the conflict between an arrogant archdeacon who is in conflict with the rest of the clergy.
'Harmer John', published in 1924, one of two hundred and fifty large paper copies. This curious novel follows a Swedish body builder who visits Walpole's fictional cathedral town of Polchester.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities, resulting in a small amount of loss to the extremities of 'Harmer John'. A couple of very light marks to the boards. Dust wrappers are edge worn with small chips and closed tears, heavier to 'The Cathedral'. Wraps are age-toned with spots. Light rubbing to the joints and extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. 'John Harmer' is unopened to the top edge.
