A lovely collection of Shakespeare's works in a concise format.
With a monochrome frontispiece to each. Portrait frontispiece by Sir George Scharf to the 'Tragedies'.
Each volume includes introductory studies of the works by Edward Dowden, an Irish critic, professor and poet who specialised in the field of Shakespearian criticism.
Comprises of:
The Histories and Poems of Shakespeare (1922) - Including his sonnets and King Henry plays.
The Tragedies of Shakespeare (1922) - Including Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and Macbeth.
The Comedies of Shakespeare (1924) - Including Two Gentlemen in Verona, Tempest and The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Condition
In signed full calf binding. Externally, excellent with minimal rubbing to the extremities. A couple faint marks to the 'Tragedies' front board. Fading to spines to 'Tragedies' and 'Histories'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the odd spot to the first and last few leaves.
