This edition of John Gay's opera is accompanied by colourful plates of scenes and costumes by Claud Lovat Fraser, complete with a colour frontispiece and seven colour plates.
A popular ballad opera in three acts, 'The Beggar's Opera' ran for sixty-two consecutive performances in 1728, making it the second longest run in theatre history up to that point.
The third impression of this trade edition, published in November 1921.
Condition
In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, generally smart. Dampstain to the tail of the front board. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light handling marks and spots to the boards. Spine is a little faded. Spots to the fore edge. Dust wrapper is a little edge worn, with small chips and closed tears, including a small chip to the rear joint. Spine and extremities are a little age-toned, light spots and handling marks to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots.
