First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
Three very scarce programmes for lost silent Westerns of 1921.
Illustrated with film stills throughout each volume.
The first of these is for 'Hills of Hate', billed as 'a western with a punch', starring Jack Hoxie, Wilbur McGaugh and Evelyn Nelson.
The second is for 'Dead or Alive', a 'vivid western drama' starring starring Jack Hoxie, Joseph W. Girard and Marin Sais.
The final programme is for 'real live western story' 'The Sheriff of Hope Eternal' starring Jack Hoxie and Marin Sais, about a stage coach driver who falls in love with a young woman when she returns West from finishing school. After he defends her from an aggressive saloon owner and gambler, he is elected sheriff.
Jack Hoxie was an American rodeo performer and actor who had a prominent career in the silent film era of the 1910s through to the 1930s. He rarely strayed from the Western genre.
Condition
In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, very smart. Small loss of paper to back strip tail of 'Dead', with perimeters of front wrap of 'Dead' and 'Sheriff' age toned. Internally, 'Dead' and 'Hills' disbound due to rusted staples, with 'Sheriff' tenderly held to the tail only. Tide mark to head of each leaf of 'Sheriff', with pages otherwise clean and bright.
