The second edition of British ornithologist and police officer E. C. Stuart Baker's impressive ornithological study.

Complete in three volumes. This second edition complete in three volumes is scarce.

Present here are: volume I, 'Ducks and their Allies (Swans, Geese and Ducks)'; volume II 'Snipe, Bustards and Sand-Grouse'; volume III, 'Pheasants and Bustard-Quail'.

With an illustrated title page to each volume, alongside thirty colour plates to volume I, nineteen colour plates and two plates of maps to volume II, and volume III with eleven colour plates and nine monochrome plates. 

Collated, complete.

Baker is known for cataloguing the birds of India, and for producing the second edition of the Fauna of British India which included the introduction of trinomial nomenclature.

Condition

Volumes I and II in half morocco bindings with cloth covered boards, and volume III in a cloth binding. Fading to back strips of morocco volumes, with rubbing to joints of these volumes. Bumping to volume III back strip head, with head of front joint starting, and board somewhat tenderly held. Front hinge of volume I strained and a touch tender. Hinges of volume II strained and a touch tender. Internally, generally firmly bound. One plate of volume I detached and loosely inserted, with two pages of volume II tenderly held. Pages bright, with instances of spotting throughout volumes I and II, but with volume III generally clean.
