    Uniformly bound in a handsome full red morocco with gilt spines. 

    A charming set of five works by the influential Russian novelist Ivan Turgenev, issued by William Heinemann, compromising: 

    The Two Friends and Other Stories (1921) First Heinemann edition.

    Knock, Knock, Knock and Other Stories (1922) Large type fine-paper edition. 

    Fathers and Children: A Novel (1926). Large type fine-paper edition; this copy a later reprint.

    Smoke: A Novel (1927) Large type fine-paper edition; this copy a later reprint.

    On the Eve: A Novel (1928) Large type fine-paper edition; this copy a later reprint.

    Ivan Turgenev (1818–1883) was one of the central figures of the Russian realist movement, noted for his psychologically subtle characters, rural settings, and political nuance.

    Constance Garnett (1861–1946) was the leading English translator of Russian literature, responsible for introducing writers such as Turgenev, Tolstoy, and Dostoevsky to a wide anglophone readership. Her lucid, accessible prose shaped British and American perceptions of Russian fiction.

    Condition

    In a full morocco binding. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, resulting in very slight loss to morocco. Previous owner’s small inscription to front free endpaper of “Smoke,” and "Fathers and Children." The odd spot and slight offsetting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just one or two spots to fore edges.
