Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

This late novel by Joseph Conrad follows Captain Tom Lingard as he travels the Malayan archipelago. The novel is often grouped with Almayer's Folly, and An Outcast of the Islands. Although these two novels by Conrad were published over twenty years earlier, all three works share the same protagonist, and are all loosely based on Conrad's experiences as a mate on the Vidar. Ink inscription to recto of front endpaper reads, 'Rosamund Jay. 1920. From P.W.'
