A five volume set. 

This set includes; ‘Period 1-Vol1 Norman and Plantagenet 1066-1485 (1921)’; ‘Period II, Vol I, Early Tudor 1485-1558’ (1924); ‘Period III, Vol I, Late Tudor & Early Stuart 1558-1649’ (1922) Period IV, Vol I, Late Stuart 1649-1714 (1920);  Period VI- Vol I, Late Georgian 1760-1820 (1926).

Heavily illustrated with monochrome photographic vignettes and full page illustrations. 

Written by Henry Avray Tipping, a British writer on country gardens and houses, as well as being a garden designer and Architectural Editor of Country Life Magazine for seventeen years. This series explored English homes and design in different periods, with focus on particular notable houses and stately homes.



Condition

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally faded to the spines to two volumes, occasional small closed tears to the head and tail of the spines, rubbing to the extremities, marks to the boards, a slight lean to a couple of volumes, and a closed tear to the rear joint to 'Vol 3' with back strip lifting. Front hinge starting to 'Vol 2', front free endpaper starting to 'Vol 5', and front free endpaper and first few pages disbound but present to 'Vol 2'. Internally, binding slightly strained to the front to 'Vol 5', otherwise generally firm, with generally bright and clean pages with occasional minor age toning and the odd handling mark.
