'The Dynasts' is an epic closet drama of the war with Napoleon, originally published as three volumes from 1904-1908 by Victorian realist novelist and poet, Thomas Hardy.
In addition to the various historical figures, the drama contains tragic chorus of metaphysical figures, being "Spirits" and "Ancient Spirits" who observe and discuss the events.

Condition
In the original green cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Bookplate of Paul Cairn Vellacott to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with slight offsetting to the endpapers and the odd spot.
