This volume gathers nine essays, originally published anonymously in The Guardian newspaper. With essays such as, English Literature, offering critical reflections on writers like Steele, and Mr. Gosse’s Poems, being a review of Edmund Gosse’s On Viol and Flute.

Walter Pater (1839–1894), an influential English essayist, literary critic, and art historian, associated with the Aesthetic Movement.

Condition

Bound in a half morocco binding with blue cloth boards by Stikeman and Co, New York. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in minor loss to morocco. Slight fading and discolouration to board extremities. One or two very minor handling marks to boards. Binder's discreet stamp to front free endpaper. One or two handling marks and spots to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
