Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Uncommon

The Confederate States Navy, a naval branch of the Confederate States Armed Forces, was first established by an act of the Confederate States Congress in 1861, and was responsible for Confederate naval operations during the American Civil War. The CSN was was primarily used for fighting against the Union Navy, and had three major tasks: Protecting Confederate harbors and coastlines from outside invasion, making the war costly for the U.S. by attacking American and Northern merchant ships worldwide, and running the U.S. blockade by drawing off U.S. Navy ships in pursuit of the Confederate commerce raiders and few warships. This work provides a fascinating insight into the CSN, and also explores Morgan's subsequent career. A first thus edition; the first English edition of this work that was published in the same year as the First US edition.
