What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Folding Maps, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding
First edition. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, numerous images across seventy-seven plates, and a folding map to the rear. Collated complete. A detailed and comprehensive study of the natural history of Costa Rica, officially the Republic of Costa Rica, over the course of one year. Within this study of the fauna and flora Amelia found that many flowers would bloom in a dry season despite the fact that they would often dry out. This was important to ensure they could act a source of food for many of the insects that Philip was studying, including butterflies and dragonflies. The book also features commentary on villages and the indigenous peoples of Costa Rica. Written by Amelia Smith Calvert, an American botanist, and her husband Philip Powell Calvert, an American entomologist, recognised as a leading authority on the Odonata. They were noted for studying the flora of Costa Rica.
